What needs to be in Mass Effect 3

Okay so Mass Effect 2 was indeed awesomeness when it came out about a year ago, I was deeply immersed and overall an excellent game. Although I did have problems with it, mainly being the role playing elements being striped out making a bare minimal rpg with mostly shooter elements in place.

The original Mass Effect had a decent though flawed RPG system in place which in the end got taken out in Mass Effect 2, like the inventory system. Pretty much anything that had some issues got taken out, also i think ME2 was designed for a more general audience aka Shooter mobs.

I didn't like the fact it was entirely mainstream with little free roam available, although side missions were put together better than the first. There was actually little treasure to find and little variety to speak, the whole customisation part from ME1 wasn't preset in ME2 - and the leveling guide was just simplified to very basic choices.

I thought overall both games have their own good / bad qualities and I would personally love to see the mix of both for Mass Effect 3. Infact I'll list below what I think should be present to have the third and last installment a bang:

***********************************

> Bring back the inventory system - it should be present. It was fine but just needed a better interface. Along with that there should be more treasure and variety of rewards. Perhaps when you complete a mission or side quest you could have what World of Warcraft has and choose from several different armour or equipment each having their own unique stats - replay value a high. Have plenty of shops to buy from and also mini games wouldn't hurt!

> Do the rpg properly - like how ME1 did it - you kill enemies you get x exp, x money. Not by just doing missions, or only. I thought the system was fine in ME1 you just needed more ways to spend money, and they could rework the leveling tree but i thought they had the right idea initiating points to individual skills.

> Have locations more open worlded - doesn't have to be a elder scrolls open, but remember the Citadel from ME1? Compare that with it in ME2. If they have environments opened more and not so confined you have better atmosphere, and more belivable worlds. Remember those large open parts when you were in the vehicles? Also plenty of room for optional quests and world events - which I found ME1 a lot better in that department.

> Characters could be more involved - like you could ask them for advice when choosing dialogue choices and even affect them turning them into a paragon or renegade. Like how Knights of the Old Republic 2 tried to do - and perhaps you could have certain factions or groups that you could only do missions for depending on how much paragon or renegade you have. Characters themselves should be moving freely to give them more realism especially when on the normandy ship, not just standing in one place. On planets have more world event stuff like Majora's Mask had you know?

> Remember the game Vanquish from last year? Tht had some killer fast paced gameplay perks. Perhaps some abilities they could add are more faster dashing (which Shepherd does but not enough IMO) and maybe the slider technique. Change it a bit from making it too much common with every other shooter, granted they have abilities which these could be used in, what i'm saying is perhaps more manuvers that are more jumping/flying than flat footed on the ground all the time - especially since it's in space. Also bring back the vehicle segments! Perhaps add some manual controlled flying?

***********************************

I'm sure there's plenty more I'm forgetting but it's late now and should get some zzzz. Overall from my list I want Bioware to bring back more of their traditional rpg stuff in but keep the core gameplay the same. I did read up that Bioware are planning to add a lot of rpg elements back in for Mass Effect 3 which is a good sign!

P.S - I'm not too happy about Jack Wall won't be doing the original score this time, instead their bringing a more renowned Hollywood scorer to do it. Sure he maybe good, he did the soundtrack to the movie 'Black Swan' and yes i admit it was quite good, but personally.. If it's a game series, I like the composer who began from the beginning to stay to the end. Anyway seems not many people are upset by this, so rant over.

CAMELTOE!?

Anyway I was playing a bit of Dragon Age Origins and for a laugh I created a big beautiful black dude with cornrows and a nose big enough to hide his arrows in.
It does seem weird to me that this character's elderly mother has the body of a 22 year old.

but it also strikes me as weird that this guys ENTIRE FAMILY is still WHITE!
This has been brought up many times before on official Bioware forums and the like. I think the official answer is you're either adopted or the milkman was delivering more then dairy products and your "father" is just too far in denial to mention it and his loyal followers have too much respect for him to bring it up either.

Kinda reminds me of renegade Shepard's problems in Mass Effect 2. Such as his complete inability to remove his helmet once equiped out of fear of this...
Or Shepard's evil scarred as shit hypercolour renegade face complete with "Terminator eyes"

Find it hard to believe that nobody in the game feels the need to mention this. "Hey Shepard....ummm...what's wrong with your face?"

I guess these are just moments that I find incredibly stupid but at the same time I feel like an idiot complaining about since they really dont matter that much in the end.

But COME ON!!!

Now Playing: Dragon Age Origins

Backstory: Yeah that’s right, I’m only playing this now – kinda surprising really. One because I’m a big fan of Bioware games, and two I bought this actually when it came out like two years ago. I grabbed the collectors edition on xbox and I remember playing it briefly, but something else must’ve grabbed my attention then (I forget what). Now though I’ve bought it for the PC which I’m now glad, it just feels better to play on PC rather than consoles, also It’s the Ultimate edition so I don’t have to worry about needing anything else. Now I’ve played Baldurs Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights and Mass Effect so I was pretty positive I’d like DAO – also hearing the rave people’s opinion, especially from Symon here! Haha.

So I heard at the beginning you can start in 6 different ways – or Origins is what they’re called, sounds great. I’m sure there’s a bunch of games that have start off’s like this, World of Warcraft I suppose but it reminded me of SeikenDenstu 3 fron the Super Nintendo, where you had a choice of 6 characters to choose at the start and each had their own branch that led eventually together on the main story. But it was also cool you could meet up with those characters through the story and some could join you. Anyway I chose the Human Noble and currently I played about 8 hours so far. Really love it already, they’ve really given the plot plenty of character development with emotion and feeling, it makes you care about your party members and what they have to say.

The interface is great for gameplay, you have a choice of either a third person view (the modern standard)or an isometric view (the classic view), that’s awesome. Everything from the menu’s and skills, it seems like they’ve tapped in all the best interface from other games and put it all into one. I heard the dialogue tree in DAO is the deepest in Bioware’s games so far, that’s great. It’s been disappointing lately with Mass Effect 2 not really delivering on that, so I’m intrigued to see how many times I’ll be replaying Dragon Age over and over, believe me I’ve done to Kotor and Mass Effect 1 plenty o’ times hehe!

Allo!

I'm here too

HI EVERYBODY

I'm JK the other half of VgAddicts. Matty takes care of most of the technical stuff (setting up this blog, editing our podcasts etc) so I guess untill we actually start filming stuff for now i'm just co-writer and co-host of our little adventure here.

So yeah lets get started on this.

PS: Yeah I still don't like the name Matty, lol ;-)

changed and unplugged

Hello WWW,

I'm Mazzy, the.. i guess founder of Video Game Addicts. What we are is a purely fan made site on video games and what we and some conspirators provide are blogs with our opinions on everything video game related.

What we did in the past was have podcasts routinely, to sum most of all this up. Nowadays it's become too troublesome and so we decided to change it into a more blog type site, with occasional audio podcasts which we've discussed - but only to do with the blog topic itself. It'll save a lot more time for us, although we still might plan to do lengthy podcasts as we did before, but probably on a less frequent time scale.

We'll see how things go anyway. For now, cheers for just reading this blog here :)

Stay tuned,

-Mazzy-
